Twitching

Throughout my life I have loved birds. In my early years this included indoor pet budgerigars and more recently outdoor aviaries. My interest in wild birds was somewhat passive until near my retirement when I discovered that a very close, long term friend shared my interest in birds.

He was a new and active member of the Far South Coast Birdwatchers group in New South Wales. Pretty soon I too was a member and attending incredibly enjoyable bird watching outings.

This was when I first encountered the term twitcher to describe a birdwatcher. Purists will argue that twitchers are less interested in the scientific observation of birds than trophy hunting sightings and/or photographs of rare quarry. Personally, I’m happy to place myself somewhere in between and am happy to be called a twitcher.

As at 4 Nov 2020 I have sighted 546 Australian birds. In addition I have sighted a further 72 overseas birds. The following are a selection of my photos of Australian birds.

I am happy to share my photographs. It would be appreciated if you use them that they be credited to me, or at least, don’t remove the watermark.
